Obaseki Dissolves Cabinet Ahead of Okpebholo’s Nov 12 Inauguration
1 min readAhead of the November 12 swearing-in of Senator Monday Okpebholo as Edo State’s new governor, outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki on Friday dissolved his cabinet after an emotional valedictory session at the Government House in Benin.
Obaseki, who has governed Edo since 2016, is set to complete his two-term tenure, with Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, poised to succeed him. The dissolution of the State Executive Council (SEC) was moved by Deputy Governor Godwin Omobayo and seconded by Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Osilama Okuofu.
At the session, Obaseki expressed gratitude to his team for their steadfastness in realizing his vision to “make Edo great again.”
He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the cabinet in advancing critical policies in sectors such as infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

“Together, we’ve worked tirelessly to build a stronger, more prosperous Edo,” Obaseki said. “I am deeply proud of what we have accomplished and the positive impact we’ve made on the lives of our citizens.”
The outgoing commissioners and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) took turns to laud the governor’s leadership and reflect on their achievements. Many expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve, with some presenting awards and gifts in his honor.
In a symbolic gesture of camaraderie, the event culminated in a dinner attended by key stakeholders, including the governor’s closest allies.
