NNPC Pushes AI Adoption to Cut Production Costs

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) is ramping up the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies as part of efforts to reduce production costs and improve efficiency in the oil and gas sector.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at leveraging data-driven solutions to optimise operations, enhance decision-making, and boost overall productivity.

According to the company, integrating AI into its processes will support its target of achieving 3 million barrels per day in oil production, while also unlocking new investment opportunities.

NNPC noted that digitalisation would enable better monitoring of assets, predictive maintenance, and improved resource management across its operations.

Industry analysts say the move reflects a growing trend among global energy companies to embrace technology in order to remain competitive and address operational challenges.

They added that the adoption of AI could help Nigeria maximise output, reduce inefficiencies, and strengthen its position in the international energy market.

The initiative is also expected to improve transparency and data management within the sector, contributing to long-term sustainability.

NNPC reaffirmed its commitment to innovation and modernisation as it seeks to drive growth and enhance performance in Nigeria’s oil industry.
