Nigerian Govt Inaugurates Committee On New Minimum Wage

President Bola Tinubu’s administration on Friday, inaugurated the Committee on Consequential Adjustments in Salaries for civil servants.

This comes through the office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack.

 

The committee has been established to implement the provisions of the National Minimum Wage Act of 2024, which increased the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.

The committee, comprising 16 members from the FG and Trade Unions, is chaired by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.

 

Its terms of reference include negotiating and agreeing on consequential adjustments in salaries and developing a template for the implementation of the approved minimum wage.

 

Walson-Jack in her opening remarks during the inauguration of the committee on Friday in Abuja, emphasised the significance of the committee’s assignment, stating that it is crucial for maintaining industrial peace and harmony.

She expressed confidence that the committee will execute its mandate in the best interests of the public service and the nation.

 

The Head of Civil Service said that the inauguration of the committee is a step towards implementing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at lifting Nigerians out of poverty and creating an enabling environment for prosperity.

 

“We must recognise the significance of this assignment, and with a focus on maintaining industrial peace and harmony, I am confident that we will execute it in the best interests of the public service and the nation as a whole,” she said.
