NELFUND Disburses N206bn To Over One Million Students
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed more than N206 billion in student loans to over 1.1 million Nigerian students across tertiary institutions nationwide.
The fund said the disbursement covers both tuition fees paid directly to institutions and upkeep allowances provided to beneficiaries to support their living expenses while studying.
Officials noted that the student loan scheme is part of the Federal Government’s effort to expand access to higher education and ease the financial burden on students and their families.
According to NELFUND, the programme has continued to record a surge in applications from students seeking financial support to complete their academic programmes.
Education stakeholders have described the initiative as a major step toward improving access to tertiary education, especially for students from low-income backgrounds.
The agency also assured that efforts are ongoing to ensure transparency and efficiency in the loan distribution process while encouraging more eligible students to apply for the scheme.
