1 min read

The management of the University of Ibadan has announced the approval of loan applications from 3,283 students by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELF). An internal memo, signed by Registrar G. O. Salisu, indicated that although the loans are approved, the actual funds have yet to be disbursed.

The memo directed department heads to allow these students to participate in the first-semester examinations for the 2023/2024 academic session.

“The list of the affected students has been sent to the departments,” Salisu stated, urging compliance from staff and students.

This announcement follows protests by students against a recent tuition fee hike endorsed by the university’s governing council.

The protests erupted after a circular confirmed increased levies for both new and returning undergraduate students, urging those yet to register to complete their payments by September 4, 2024.
