NDDC Hands Over Shoreline Protection Sites to Contractors in Bayelsa

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has officially handed over project sites for emergency shoreline protection and land reclamation to contractors in Bayelsa State.

The projects, located in Onuebum and Ayakoro communities, are aimed at addressing the persistent challenges of coastal erosion and flooding affecting residents in the areas.

During the handover ceremony, NDDC officials emphasized that the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable communities and safeguard critical infrastructure from environmental degradation.

They noted that shoreline erosion has posed significant threats to livelihoods, displacing residents and damaging properties, thereby necessitating urgent intervention.

According to the commission, the projects will involve the construction of protective barriers and land reclamation works designed to restore affected areas and prevent further encroachment by water.

Community leaders in Onuebum and Ayakoro welcomed the development, expressing hope that the projects would bring lasting relief and improve living conditions.

The NDDC also urged contractors to adhere strictly to project specifications and timelines to ensure quality delivery and timely completion.

Environmental experts say such interventions are crucial in mitigating the impact of climate change and preserving coastal communities in the Niger Delta region.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development and continued support for projects that address environmental and socio-economic challenges in the region.
