NCoS Appoints New DCP Amid Bobrisky Controversy
1 min readThe Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has appointed Daniel Ogu as the new Deputy Controller of Prisons (DCP) at the Kirikiri Medium Security Prison in Lagos, following the suspension of Michael Anugwa due to serious allegations surrounding his conduct.
Anugwa’s suspension stems from accusations of facilitating social media figure Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, in circumventing standard prison regulations during his six-month sentence.
Reports indicate that Bobrisky was allowed to serve his time in more comfortable accommodations rather than typical prison conditions, raising concerns about bribery and corruption.

Anugwa’s handling of the situation came under scrutiny during a House of Representatives session, where he controversially claimed, “They did not serve me a letter, sir. It is a social media suspension.”
The NCoS clarified that Anugwa’s suspension was necessary given the gravity of the allegations, which include claims of cash payments received from Okuneye.
The organization emphasized that allowing Anugwa to remain in his position would be inappropriate amidst ongoing investigations.
Further complicating matters, insiders at the Kirikiri prison alleged that Anugwa had engaged in physically assaulting inmates earlier this year, with reports detailing an incident in April where he and some wardens allegedly used canes on inmates.
