The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has fined a media station in Jos for airing Nigerian songs which they claim contains “vulgar and indecent music lyrics”.

The songs listed are Falz “This is Nigeria”, Olamide “See Mary, See Jesus” and Wande Coal’s “Iskaba”.

The offensive lyrics are as follows:

  • Falz- This is Nigeria–  This is Nigeria, look how we living now, everybody be criminal
  • Wande Coal- IskabaGirl you dey make me kolo, shaking the ass like kolo

Olamide- See Mary, See Jesus– Casual use of the names of “Mary” and “Jesus

The NBC pointed out that they had a problem with the part that goes, “This is Nigeria, look how we living now, everybody be criminal.”

Also, the commission fined the station for playing Olamide’s song titled “See Mary, See Jesus.”

The letter said Mary and Jesus were regarded as sacred by the Christian faith and as such, the song contravened the law.

The station was also cautioned for playing Wande Coal’s Iskaba with the lyrics, “Girl you dey make me kolo, shaking the ass like kolo”, which NBC described as vulgar.

In the letter addressed to JODAJ Global Communications Ltd, they stated that the media station pay the fine of N100,000 according to section 14.1.4.1a.
