The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raided a warehouse in Oke-Afa, Okota, Lagos, where it uncovered a large quantity of expired and unregistered supermarket items, some of which had been contaminated by rats due to poor storage conditions.

The raid, which occurred after a tip-off, led to the seizure of various products, including carbonated drinks that had been offloaded from a 20ft container.

In a statement issued by the agency on Wednesday, NAFDAC revealed that upon further inspection, over 14 rooms in the facility were found to be stocked with unregistered and expired goods.

The discovery raised concerns about the potential health risks posed by such products, especially with the festive season approaching.

NAFDAC has placed the warehouse on hold and suspended all operations until the management provides proof of the product’s legal sourcing, including a valid Global Listing for Supermarket Items (GLSI) certificate.
