NAF, US Officials Meet to Fast-Track Delivery of Attack Helicopters

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has met with United States government officials and representatives of Bell Textron to fast-track the delivery of 12 AH-1Z attack helicopters aimed at boosting Nigeria’s air combat capability.

The meeting, held as part of ongoing defence cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, focused on resolving logistical and administrative issues to ensure timely delivery of the helicopters. The AH-1Z platforms are expected to significantly enhance NAF’s capacity to conduct precision strikes, close air support and counter-insurgency operations.

NAF officials at the meeting emphasized the urgent need to strengthen air power in response to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges, including terrorism, banditry and other forms of armed criminality. They noted that the acquisition forms part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to modernise the Air Force and improve operational effectiveness.

US officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Nigeria’s security objectives, while Bell Textron provided updates on the production timeline and delivery schedule of the helicopters.

The AH-1Z attack helicopters are known for their advanced avionics, firepower and survivability, and are expected to play a key role in supporting ground troops once deployed.

NAF leadership expressed optimism that the engagement would accelerate the delivery process and further strengthen military cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
