MTN Partners Lagos State to Build Modern Bus Park at Obalende Under-Bridge
Lagos State has partnered with MTN Nigeria to redevelop the Obalende under-bridge into a modern, safe, and sustainable transport hub known as the Y’ELLO Bus Park, in a move aimed at improving urban mobility and revitalising public infrastructure.
The project, a public–private partnership between the Lagos State Government and MTN Nigeria, will transform the previously congested under-bridge space into an organised bus terminal designed to enhance commuter safety, reduce traffic chaos, and improve the overall transport experience in the area.
According to officials, the Y’ELLO Bus Park will feature designated bus bays, passenger waiting areas, improved lighting, security infrastructure, and modern amenities to support efficient operations. The redevelopment is also expected to address environmental and safety concerns traditionally associated with under-bridge locations.
The Obalende corridor is one of Lagos’ busiest transport routes, connecting key commercial and residential districts on the Island. Authorities say the new bus park will help streamline traffic flow, reduce indiscriminate parking, and support the state’s broader transport and urban renewal agenda.
The initiative aligns with Lagos State’s vision for sustainable transportation and MTN Nigeria’s corporate social responsibility focus on community development and infrastructure support. By repurposing idle urban spaces, the partnership seeks to deliver long-term social and economic benefits for commuters, transport operators, and nearby businesses.
Construction and redevelopment activities are expected to be carried out with minimal disruption to traffic, while stakeholders have assured residents and commuters of adherence to safety and environmental standards.
Once completed, the Y’ELLO Bus Park is set to become a model for similar under-bridge transport hubs across Lagos, reinforcing the city’s drive toward a more organised, inclusive, and resilient transport system.
