MTN Nigeria Records 9,218 Fibre Cuts, 211 Vandalised Sites in 2025

MTN Nigeria has disclosed that it recorded a total of 9,218 fibre cuts across the country in 2025, a development that led to widespread network disruptions and service challenges for customers.

The telecommunications company said the fibre cuts were largely caused by vandalism, theft, and damage from road construction activities, highlighting the growing threat to critical telecom infrastructure nationwide.

In addition to fibre cuts, MTN reported that 211 of its network sites were affected by theft and vandalism as of November 30, 2025. The incidents disrupted essential voice and data services relied upon daily by millions of subscribers, businesses, and public institutions.

Despite the challenges, MTN said it worked to mitigate the impact on customers, recording and resolving a total of 1,624,263 customer complaints across all its service channels during the period under review.

The company reiterated calls for stronger protection of telecommunications infrastructure, stressing that network facilities are critical national assets that support economic activities, security operations, and digital inclusion.

MTN also urged government authorities, communities, and construction firms to collaborate with telecom operators to reduce incidents of fibre damage and vandalism, warning that continued attacks on infrastructure could undermine service quality and slow Nigeria’s digital transformation efforts.

The telco assured customers of its commitment to improving network resilience and service delivery, even as it invests in repairs, alternative routing, and security measures to address recurring disruptions.
