Mogaji Remembrance Party Tears Tinubu Family Apart
3 min read
Few days ago when the noble Tinubu family in Lagos organized a fidau prayer to mark the one year anniversary of their late mother, Abibatu Mogaji, the entire Lagos was held spellbound as those who matters trooped into Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Ikoyi, Lagos-venue of the soiree to commemorate with the family headed by former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. But besides the glitz, glamour and razzmatazz that came along with the event, there are indications that some of the family members are displeased with the arrangement as some of them were conspicuously absent at the gig.
In reference to this was the absence of Prince Adedamola Adetokunbo Kasunmu, the only surviving biological grandson of the deceased. To the surprise of many, last Sunday, June 15 when the one year remembrance anniversary of Mogaji came up at TBS, Damola was missing at the event, leading to curiosity among close watchers. But Society People’s checks revealed that Adedamola must have been absent as a result of neglect.
Findings however revealed that, the planning of the event by Chief (Mrs) Sade Tinubu-Ojo, Asiwaju’s daughter, who succeeded Mogaji as the Iyaloja-General, and her cronies, took over five months, yet sources close to the family confirmed that Damola was totally kept in dark concerning all the arrangements towards the remembrance, neither was he carried along on any matter relating to event nor was there any form of communication with him on the matter.
Insiders also revealed that, the special Ankara Aso-ebi for the event was not sent to Damola and his wife until two days before the event. This naturally, according to sources, may have added to his inability to make the event.
However, informed sources believe that Damola’s omission in the family matters started during Mogaji’s burial programmes last year, when tributes from Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Sade Tinubu and others were featured in the program booklet for the event, but that of Adedamola was left out neither was he a part of the burial committee that was responsible for the burial programme. But nevertheless, he was present at that event and participated in all the rites.
Be that as it may, sources close to Demola whose mother Abiodun Kasunmu, (purportedly Ahmed Tinubu’s sibling) died in 2006 accused the Tinubu family of abandoning the dude to fend for himself despite all entreaties made by the late Mogaji to Asiwaju Tinubu to financially assist Demola or fix him in a suitable position.
For quite some time, those in the know said Damola, who studied Law at the University of Wolverhampton, UK and currently oversees his late mother school, Modupe Memorial Global College in Magodo, Lagos, drives around town in a rickety car around while his wife, who is also a graduate is surprisingly said to be searching for a job.
Sources also disclosed that the once juicy relationship that formerly exists between the former Lagos state governor and Demola, who share same birthday March 29 together and are fond of celebrating it together has degenerated to the extent that Tinubu now does his things separately. It was noted that while Mogaji was alive, Asiwaju usually come to Alhaja’s house on Sunday Adigun st, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos to receive prayers and blessings and cut birthday cake jointly with Adedamola, who is also called JAGABAN Junior. Most people thought, this was a good tradition which ought to be sustained with passion, at least if only to honour the memory of the late Matriarch Abibatu Mogaji. However this year, which is the first March 29 after Alhaja’s demise, Asiwaju we gathered didn’t show up at Alhaja’s house. Again, in all the activities lined up to celebrate Tinubu’s 62nd at Oriental Hotel, Adedamola, his birthday mate and sibling Adedamola was conspicuously omitted in all the arrangements.
Efforts to reach Chief (Mrs) Sade Tinubu-Ojo for comments on the matter proved abortive as calls to her mobile phones were not answered, and we could not also get feedbacks from Demola while filing this report.
