Mark Clattenburg Claims Calvert-Lewin’s Goal Against Man Utd Should Have Stood
1 min readFormer Premier League referee, Mark Clattenburg, has insisted that Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late goal against Manchester United should have stood.
Calvert-Lewin thought he had scored the winner, after his shock came off Harry Maguire into the net.
But VAR ruled that his team-mate Gylfi Sigurdsson was offside and interfered with play.
“This is one that will divide opinion, but in my view Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late goal should have stood.
“The striker’s shot deflected off Manchester United defender Harry Maguire and that wrong-footed keeper David de Gea, allowing the ball to trickle into the goal.
“When Calvert-Lewin got his effort away, Gylfi Sigurdsson was in an offside position, but the Everton midfielder did not touch the ball,” Clattenburg told the Daily Mail.
Calvert-Lewin had given Everton an early lead following a David De Gea error, before Bruno Fernandes made it 1-1.
