Maiduguri Mosque Bombing: Tinubu Orders Deployment of Additional Tactical Teams
Maiduguri, Borno State — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical security teams to Borno State following a deadly suicide bombing at a mosque in the Gamboru Market area of Maiduguri.
The explosion occurred on Wednesday evening during Maghrib prayers at the Al-Adum Mosque, a popular place of worship for traders and residents in the bustling market district. Initial reports indicate that the blast killed at least five worshippers and left several others injured.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima, speaking on behalf of the government, condemned the attack in strong terms, describing it as a “despicable assault on innocent citizens and the peace of the nation.” He reiterated that the federal government, under President Tinubu’s directive, has intensified security operations in the region to track down and apprehend those responsible.
The Federal Government will not tolerate any attempt to undermine the peace and security of our nation,” Shettima said, noting that security agencies are working “around the clock” to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The additional tactical teams are expected to work alongside local authorities and existing security formations to bolster surveillance, enhance response capabilities and protect vulnerable communities across Borno and neighboring states.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but extremist organisations such as Boko Haram and its splinter factions have carried out similar suicide bombings in northeast Nigeria in the past.
