Maiduguri Floods: Borno Police Re-Arrest Escaped Convict
1 min readA convict, Kyari Kur (aka Henry) who escaped from a correctional facility during the recent flooding that ravaged Maiduguri, has been rearrested by the Borno State Police Command.
The spokesperson of the command, ASP Nahun Kenneth Daso, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, October 11, 2024, said the 28-year-old convict was arrested in Gubio town following a credible tip-off.
“Kyari Kur was serving a jail term for criminal conspiracy and theft at the Medium Security Custodian Center in Maiduguri. Unfortunately, he escaped due to the devastating flood incident in September 2024, which collapsed the fence,” the statement read.

“On October 10, 2024, police surveillance at Gubio divisional headquarters received a credible tip-off that Kur was sighted in Gubio town. Swiftly responding to the information, the police apprehended Kur.
“The convict has been profiled and will be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further action.”
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Lawal Yusufu, reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and justice.
“We appreciate the public’s cooperation and urge them to continue providing timely information,” the CP said.
