Luigi Mangione indicted on federal charges in killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO

A federal grand jury has indicted Luigi Mangione on four charges over the killing of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, Brian Thompson, in New York City last December.

The 26-year-old is also facing state murder charges and other counts in the killing of Thompson.

The federal indictment on Thursday, charged Mangione with two counts of stalking; one count of murder through use of a firearm; and a firearms offense for allegedly using a silencer.

Mangione is accused of shooting Thompson from behind as he walked on a street in Midtown Manhattan to an investors conference.

UnitedHealthcare is America’s largest private health insurance company, and officials have said Mangione targeted Thompson.

They also claimed the words “deny,” “depose” and “delay” were written on two spent shell casings and one bullet discovered at the scene.

Mangione is charged in New York on state counts of first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism, but he is also charged on two counts of second-degree murder. He is also charged with weapons counts and a count of using a forged instrument.

Attorney General Pam Bondi has already directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty against Mangione in the federal case.
