Lagos plans all-inclusive education in public schools
2 min readThe Lagos State Government says acquisition of functional education and life skills programmes, popularly called 360 Degrees initiative, is the modern trend in education, adding that it has adopted the policy for public schools in the state.
The Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, said this in Lagos on Tuesday on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of uniformed voluntary organisations in public schools in the state, explaining that 360 Degrees education initiative would boost comprehensive education of students.
She said, “Government will faithfully improve on infrastructure in schools, teaching methods and staff quality, to achieve better performance. It will also introduce technology-based teaching-learning tools for senior pupils.”
Adebule stated that to achieve better education delivery, the cooperation and partnership of all stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and all educational agencies, was imperative.
She said the rejuvenation of uniformed voluntary organisations in public schools in the state was part of the government’s commitment to the provision of a holistic education for pupils.
“We believe that it is our responsibility to help them, not only to develop mentally, but physically, emotionally and socially. The effect of this will be total and well-rounded individuals for the challenges of the global society,” the deputy governor added.
She explained that since the re-inauguration, the uniformed clubs in public schools had helped to achieve the government’s goals as manifested in the pupils’ virtues such as discipline, obedience and other traits necessary to prepare them for leadership roles in future.
She said, “I want to advise the pupils to continue to be well-behaved, disciplined and concentrate on their studies in order to justify government’s investment in them.”
