Kwara Directs Schools to Reopen Monday
Ilorin, Nigeria — The Kwara State Government has directed all public and private schools across the state to resume academic activities on Monday, January 5, 2026, with the exception of areas currently placed under special security measures.
The directive was announced by the state government on Sunday as part of efforts to restore normal academic activities following recent disruptions. According to the statement, schools located in communities affected by heightened security concerns will remain closed until further notice, in line with advice from security agencies.
The government assured parents, guardians and school administrators that it is working closely with security operatives to ensure the safety of students and teachers, adding that reopening decisions are being guided strictly by security assessments.
To prevent learning gaps in areas where schools are unable to reopen immediately, the state government also launched a radio-based learning initiative. The programme is designed to enable students to continue their studies from home through structured educational broadcasts.
Education authorities said the radio lessons would cover core subjects and be delivered at scheduled times to ensure continuity of learning, especially for pupils in basic and secondary schools affected by the closure.
The Kwara State Government urged parents and school proprietors to comply with the directive and remain vigilant, while assuring residents that updates would be provided as the security situation evolves.
The move, officials said, underscores the state’s commitment to safeguarding lives while ensuring that the education of children is not unduly disrupted.
