Kogi Sets Up Committee to Investigate WASSCE Malpractice
2 min readKogi State has launched an Examination Misconduct, Investigation, and Disciplinary Committee to probe the involvement of schools and individuals in the malpractice that marred the 2024 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the state.
In a bid to restore integrity to the examination process, the state’s Ministry of Education inaugurated the committee on Tuesday, with a one-week deadline for submitting its findings.
The committee will investigate the extent of the misconduct, focusing on both the role of schools and individual perpetrators. It will also recommend suitable sanctions for those found guilty, in accordance with the provisions of the Kogi State Education Law and Other Matters Connected Therewith, 2020.

Dr. Jibrin Saidu Alhaji, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, will chair the committee, with Mrs. Omolayo Barikisu Onozare, Director of Administration, serving as the Secretary.
Members of the committee include representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Kogi State Secondary Education Commission, the State Universal Basic Education Board, and the West African Examination Council (WAEC), among others.
Speaking during the inauguration in Lokoja, Kogi’s Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, emphasized the government’s commitment to stamping out examination malpractice.
He said, “The current administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo abhors examination fraud. This is a cankerworm that must be nipped in the bud, as it directly affects the future of our children.”
Jones charged the committee members to carry out their responsibilities with fairness and integrity, assuring that the government would fully implement any recommendations made.
He stressed that the fight against examination fraud was critical to safeguarding the future of students in the state.
Dr. Alhaji, in his remarks, pledged a thorough and impartial investigation, assuring that the committee would uphold the highest standards throughout the process.
