KEDCO Laments Unreliable Power Supply from National Grid
The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has raised concerns over what it described as persistent and unreliable power supply from the national grid, attributing the situation to network and transmission challenges beyond its control.
In a statement addressing customers across its franchise areas, the distribution company said the instability in electricity supply has significantly affected residents and businesses in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states. The company explained that the disruptions stem largely from issues linked to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the broader national grid infrastructure.
KEDCO noted that frequent outages and load fluctuations have complicated its service delivery efforts, despite ongoing measures to improve distribution efficiency within its network. It stressed that while it remains committed to providing stable electricity to its customers, limitations at the transmission level continue to undermine progress.
“The current supply challenges are primarily due to constraints on the national grid and transmission network,” the company stated. “These issues have resulted in inconsistent power allocation to our coverage areas, impacting households, commercial activities, and industrial operations.”
The distribution firm urged customers to remain patient and assured them that it is actively engaging with relevant authorities and stakeholders to address the underlying problems. It also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and timely communication regarding developments affecting power supply.
KEDCO further encouraged consumers to adopt energy management practices and safeguard their electrical appliances during periods of fluctuation, noting that voltage instability can pose risks to equipment.
The company’s statement comes amid broader concerns about electricity reliability in parts of the country, where grid constraints, infrastructure limitations, and technical faults have continued to affect supply consistency.
Stakeholders in the power sector have repeatedly emphasized the need for sustained investments in transmission and grid modernization to ensure more stable and predictable electricity delivery nationwide.
