Jigawa government disengages Ramadan feeding vendor over misconduct

The Jigawa State Government has terminated its contract with DIYA SWEETS, the main vendor for the Ramadan Feeding Programme in Guri Local Government Area, over allegations of financial misconduct.

In a statement issued to SOCIETY WATCH, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Auwal D. Sankara (Fica), revealed that DIYA SWEETS unlawfully deducted N72,000 from the N672,000 allocated for a three-day payment to sub-vendors.

The government has demanded the immediate refund of the withheld amount to the affected sub-vendors.

He also warned that legal action would be taken if the vendor fails to comply. Additionally, DIYA SWEETS has been directed to return all documents and materials related to the Ramadan Feeding Programme without delay.

“We take this matter seriously and are committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in all our programs. This decision is necessary to protect the interests of our people and uphold the reputation of this administration,” the commissioner added.

SOCIETY WATCH reported that Governor Umar Namadi has approved N4.8 billion for the 2025 Ramadan Feeding Programme in 630 centres across the state.

“Despite multiple warnings and opportunities to address the issue, the vendor failed to comply and withheld funds meant for sub-vendors. As a result, we have decided to disengage DIYA SWEETS from any future involvement in the programme within Guri Local Government Area,” Sankara stated.
