JAMB Automates Services to Prevent Extortion, Exploitation

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the automation of its services to prevent extortion and enhance service delivery.

 

The move is aimed at reducing physical contact between candidates and JAMB officials, particularly in light of the fact that many candidates are underage.

According to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the automation will help address issues of extortion and exploitation.

“Given that many of the candidates who take the UTME are underage, the board is considering limiting physical contact with those with challenges to avoid any alleged issues of extortion and other forms of exploitation,” he said.

 

Oloyede also disclosed that JAMB had received reports of unwholesome practices and had deployed a team to investigate.

He urged students who had accused JAMB officials and other operatives of extortion to provide credible evidence, warning that any staff found culpable would face the full wrath of the law.

With the automation of services, candidates can now register and conduct transactions with JAMB online, reducing the need for physical contact with officials.
