It’s An All English Affair In The Champions League And Europa League Finals

It’s going to be an all english affair for the two most coveted European trophy, the Uefa Champions League and the Uefa Europa League. Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Chelsea will all be vying to win the  respective competitions.

The Europa League will witness Arsenal and Chelsea going head to head in Baku.

Arsenal defeated Spanish side, Valencia, 7 – 3 on agrregate in the semi final to set a final showpiece with fellow English team Chelsea who defeated German side Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties.

Arsenal had beat Valencia at the Emirates Stadium 3 – 1 before beating them again at the Mestalla Stadium, 4 – 2, winning the tie 7 – 3 on aggregate.

 

Chelsea had a more difficult time compared to Arsenal after drawing with Eintracht Frankfurt 1 – 1 at the Commerzbank-Arena and drawing 1 – 1 again at the Stamford Bridge. The game went into extra time but both team drew blanks and proceeded into penalty shootouts.

Chelsea triumphed 4 – 3 on penalties after Kepa Arizzabalaga made two saves, Hazard stepped up and scored the winning penalty.

 

The Champions League on the other hand will witness Liverpool and Tottenham locking horns in Madrid.

Liverpool had beat Barcelona 4 – 0 at Anfield in one of the greatest comeback ever after going down at Camp Nou 3 goals to nil. Two goals apiece from Georginio Wijnaldum and Divock Origi ensured a place in the final for Liverpool for the second time in two years.

 

Tottenham will battle Liverpool for the Champions League title after downing Ajax Amsterdam on away goals. Ajax had beat Tottenham 1 – 0 at Tottenham’s new turf in London and was even leading 2 – 0 at halftime at the Johan Cruijff Arena before Lucas Moura scored a second half hat-trick to secure the final spot for Tottenham, shattering Ajax youthful side hope of adding another Champions league to the previous two in their trophy cabinet.

The results means four English team will be playing in the final of Champions League and Europa League  respectively for the first  time ever.
