IPOB Lawyer Flays FG Over Seized Presidential Jets, Warns Of Impending Disaster
2 min readIfeanyi Ejiofor, the lawyer to the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has described the seizure of three presidential aircraft by a Chinese corporation as an “international embarrassment” and a sign of an impending disaster for Nigeria.
Ejiofor, in a press release on Saturday, criticized the Federal Government for its “growing habit of excessive and reckless borrowing,” which he said was putting Nigeria’s sovereignty at risk.
He warned that the country’s assets might soon be tied to foreign judgments, saying, “We are no longer under any form of illusion that Nigeria’s sovereignty is under serious threat, amid mountain debt concerns.”

Ejiofor expressed concerns that Nigerians were not paying attention to the impending disaster, stating, “Unfortunately, Nigerians are not paying commensurate attention to this impending disaster.” He further stated, “On August 15, 2024, three presidential aircraft undergoing maintenance in Paris were temporarily seized in strict compliance with a court order. What an international disgrace!”
The seizure of the presidential aircraft was a result of a dispute between the Ogun State Government and the Chinese corporation, Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited, over a 2007 pact to establish a free trade zone. Despite a ruling by an independent arbitral tribunal in favor of Zhongshan, awarding the company approximately $74.5 million, the Ogun State Government has contested the decision and has yet to fulfill its obligations.
Ejiofor warned that Nigeria might soon wake up to find its assets tied to foreign judgments, saying, “The unfortunate reality is that with the Nigerian Government’s growing habit of excessive and reckless borrowing, it is increasingly likely that we may one day wake up to find Nigeria’s assets and the entire Nigerians tied to foreign judgments. It is only a matter of time.”
