INEC Begins PVC Distribution in FCT Ahead of February 21 Area Council Polls
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in preparation for the February 21 Area Council elections.
INEC announced that the exercise is aimed at ensuring eligible voters collect their PVCs early and participate fully in the forthcoming polls. The distribution is taking place across the six Area Councils of the FCT—Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and Abaji.
According to the commission, PVC collection is being conducted at designated INEC offices and registration centres within each Area Council. Eligible voters are required to present valid identification or acknowledgment slips issued during registration or transfer processes to collect their cards.
INEC stated that the exercise will run during official working days and hours, urging voters to take advantage of the period to avoid last-minute rush or disenfranchisement on election day. The commission also emphasized that PVC collection is strictly personal, as cards will not be released to proxies.
Residents of the FCT have been encouraged to verify their registration status and promptly collect their PVCs, as the card remains the only valid document for voting in the election.
INEC further assured voters of its commitment to conducting a credible, free, and fair election, while advising the public to obtain accurate information on collection schedules and locations through official INEC channels.
The February 21 Area Council elections will determine the chairmen and councillors who will administer grassroots governance across the FCT.
