INEC Assures Nigerians of Readiness for 2027 Polls
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians of its preparedness to conduct the 2027 General Elections, despite delays surrounding the passage of amendments to the Electoral Act.
The Commission said it has concluded work on its timetable and schedule of activities for the elections, stressing that preparations are progressing steadily in line with its constitutional responsibilities. INEC noted that early planning remains critical to the success of the polls, especially given the scale and complexity of elections in Africa’s most populous country.
According to the electoral body, ongoing preparations include voter registration activities, logistics planning, review of election technologies, and engagement with key stakeholders such as political parties, civil society organisations, and security agencies.
INEC acknowledged that delays in the amendment of the Electoral Act could affect certain operational and legal aspects of the electoral process. However, it maintained that the Commission is working within the existing legal framework while remaining ready to adjust its plans once the amendments are passed into law.
The Commission also reiterated its commitment to transparency, credibility, and continuous improvement of Nigeria’s electoral process, assuring citizens that lessons learned from previous elections are being applied to strengthen future polls.
INEC urged Nigerians to remain engaged in the electoral process and to support efforts aimed at delivering free, fair, and credible elections in 2027.
