Igboho to Alaafin, Olubadan: Focus on Insecurity, Not Chairmanship Tussle
Sunday Igboho, has called on the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to set aside their differences over the rotational chairmanship of the Oyo State Council of Obas and concentrate on addressing insecurity in the South West.
Igboho made the appeal amid the ongoing dispute between the two foremost traditional rulers over who should assume the chairmanship position, a development that has generated debate across the state. He urged the monarchs to work together in the overall interest of the Yoruba people, stressing that unity among traditional institutions is critical at a time when the region is grappling with security challenges.
According to the activist, issues such as kidnapping, banditry and other forms of criminality pose a greater threat to the peace and development of the South West than disagreements over leadership positions. He noted that traditional rulers occupy influential roles and should leverage their positions to support efforts aimed at restoring safety and stability in their domains.
Igboho also emphasized the need for collaboration between royal fathers, community leaders and government authorities to formulate effective strategies to tackle insecurity and promote development across the region. He cautioned that prolonged disputes among respected monarchs could distract from more pressing concerns affecting ordinary citizens.
The disagreement over the rotational chairmanship of the Oyo State Council of Obas has continued to draw public attention, with calls from various quarters for dialogue and reconciliation to preserve harmony within the state’s traditional institution
