Igboho Removed from Wanted List After Monarchs’ Intervention – Spokesman

Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been removed from the Federal Government’s wanted list, paving the way for his return to Nigeria.

According to a spokesman for the activist, the development followed the intervention of prominent Yoruba monarchs, who appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resolve the matter in the interest of peace and unity in the South-West.

The spokesman disclosed that President Tinubu approved Igboho’s removal from the wanted list after consultations and assurances from traditional rulers that the activist would maintain peace and abide by the laws of the country.

Sunday Igboho had been declared wanted by security agencies in connection with his agitation for the Yoruba Nation, which led to his flight from Nigeria in 2021. He was later arrested in the Benin Republic before being released.

With the latest decision, Igboho is said to have been cleared to return home without fear of arrest, a move observers say could ease tensions in parts of the South-West.

However, as of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Presidency or security agencies confirming the development.
