Google Unveils App Integration in Gemini
Google has launched a beta version of its Gemini artificial intelligence platform, introducing app integration features that allow users to connect services such as Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube and Search to create a more personalised digital assistant.
The new update enables Gemini to draw context from users’ connected Google apps, helping it provide more relevant responses, summaries and suggestions. For example, users can ask Gemini to summarise emails from Gmail, locate specific photos, suggest YouTube content based on viewing history, or answer questions using personalised Search context.
According to Google, the integration is designed to make Gemini more useful in everyday tasks by reducing the need to switch between apps. The company said the feature gives users greater control over how the AI interacts with their data, with options to manage permissions or disconnect apps at any time.
Google stressed that the app integrations are optional and covered by existing privacy and security protections. User data linked to Gemini, the company said, will not be used for advertising purposes and can be reviewed or deleted by users.
The beta rollout is part of Google’s broader push to position Gemini as a central AI assistant across its ecosystem, competing with similar offerings from other major technology firms. The company plans to expand app integrations and capabilities over time based on user feedback.
The Gemini app integration feature is currently available to select users, with a wider rollout expected in the coming months.
