FG Promises Varsities, Hospitals Electricity Subsidy
1 min readThe Federal Government has announced plans to subsidize electricity in universities and health institutions under Band A feeders.
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, made this known on Saturday during a radio program in Ibadan, Oyo State. He stated that the government would not subsidize private businesses operating within these institutions.
This decision comes after universities and public hospitals complained about the significant increase in their electricity bills after the government removed subsidies for Band A customers.

Adelabu explained that the government is aware of the challenges faced by these institutions and is willing to subsidize them, but emphasized the need to differentiate between legitimate health and educational facilities and private businesses operating within them.
He noted that private businesses should not benefit from subsidies meant for public institutions.
The minister also mentioned that the government is compiling data to ensure that only eligible institutions receive the subsidy.
He assured that the government would pay the balance of the electricity bills for these institutions after the distribution companies collect a certain amount.
