FG Inserts N487bn Rail, Highway Projects into 2026 Budget

The Federal Government has added N487.56 billion for rail and highway infrastructure projects into the revised 2026 budget, as part of efforts to improve transportation and urban mobility across the country.

Officials said the allocation will be directed toward the development of new rail lines and expansion of key highways, with a focus on enhancing mass transit systems in major cities.

The move is aimed at reducing traffic congestion, lowering transportation costs, and boosting economic activities through improved connectivity.

According to government sources, the projects are expected to support urban development and facilitate the movement of goods and people more efficiently.

Analysts say the increased investment in infrastructure reflects the government’s commitment to modernising the nation’s transport network and addressing long-standing challenges in the sector.

They also noted that improved rail and road systems could attract investments and stimulate economic growth.

The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring timely execution of the projects, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in the utilisation of public funds.

The development comes as part of broader efforts to strengthen infrastructure and enhance the overall quality of life for Nigerians.
