FG Declares Dec. 25, 26, Jan. 1 Public Holidays
The Federal Government has declared Thursday, December 25 and Friday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays to mark Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
The announcement was made in a statement released by the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Federal Government, urging Nigerians to use the festive period to reflect on the values of love, peace, and goodwill which Christmas represents.
According to the statement, the holidays are in line with the government’s commitment to preserving the country’s cultural and religious heritage, while allowing citizens to celebrate with family and loved ones.
The Federal Government also reminded Nigerians that Wednesday, January 1, 2026, will be observed as a public holiday to mark the New Year celebration.
While congratulating Christians on the Christmas festivities, the government called on all Nigerians, irrespective of religion, to use the period to promote unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence across the country.
It further encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and maintain peace and security before, during, and after the holidays.
