FG Approves 100% Gratuity for Retiring Civil Servants

Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Executive Council has approved the implementation of a new Exit Benefit Scheme that will grant retiring federal civil servants a gratuity equal to 100 percent of their total annual emolument.

The decision, announced after a council meeting in Abuja, is aimed at improving the welfare of public servants and ensuring that workers who have served the nation receive better financial support upon retirement.

Under the new scheme, eligible federal civil servants will receive a gratuity equivalent to their entire annual salary and allowances at the point of retirement. Government officials said the initiative is designed to strengthen the retirement package for workers and recognize their years of service.

The policy is also expected to boost morale within the civil service and encourage greater commitment and productivity among government employees.

According to the government, relevant agencies will work on the modalities for implementing the scheme to ensure smooth and transparent disbursement of the benefits to retirees.

The move forms part of ongoing reforms by the Federal Government to improve working conditions and post-service welfare for public sector employees across the country.
