Falana Demands Probe into NLC HQ Raid, Questions DSS Denial

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has called for a thorough investigation into the raid on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) headquarters in Abuja, insisting that the Department of State Services (DSS) denial of involvement is insufficient.
Falana’s demand follows an armed invasion of the NLC office by security operatives on Wednesday night.
The NLC spokesperson, Benson Upah, reported that heavily armed security personnel forcibly entered the premises, specifically targeting the bookshop and seizing hundreds of books and publications.

The operatives claimed they were searching for “seditious materials” linked to the #EndBadGovernance protests.
Despite the DSS’s denial of involvement, Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), decried the incident as a “shameful reminder” of similar repressive actions from the military era.
He criticized the invasion as a tactic to suppress dissent against the government’s treatment of protestors.
In his statement, Falana drew parallels with a 1988 raid during military rule, highlighting the undemocratic nature of such actions.
“The official denial of the State Security Service in the repressive activity is not sufficient,” Falana stated, urging Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to ensure that the perpetrators of the invasion are identified and held accountable.
