Ex-Niger Delta Agitators Fault Calls to Decentralise Pipeline Security Contract
Former Niger Delta agitators have rejected calls to decentralise the pipeline security contract, insisting that the current arrangement remains effective in safeguarding oil infrastructure.
The group commended the performance of Tantita Security Services, noting that its operations have significantly reduced oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the region.
According to them, fragmenting the contract could undermine the progress recorded and create room for inefficiency and renewed security challenges.
They urged stakeholders and the Federal Government to sustain support for the existing structure, emphasizing the need for continuity and stability in pipeline surveillance efforts.
The ex-agitators also warned against politicising the issue, stressing that decisions should be based on performance and national interest rather than pressure from competing interests.
Industry observers say the debate reflects broader concerns about how best to secure critical oil assets while ensuring accountability and inclusiveness.
The call comes amid ongoing discussions on improving oil production and curbing losses linked to pipeline vandalism.
Authorities are expected to review the concerns as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s oil sector and maintain gains in security operations.
