Enugu Vaccinates 1.5 Million Children Against Measles, Rubella in One Week
Enugu State has immunized approximately 1.5 million children against measles and rubella within one week, marking a major milestone in its ongoing public health campaign.
State health authorities said the mass vaccination drive was designed to protect children from the highly contagious viral diseases and move the state closer to recording zero cases. The exercise, conducted across multiple local government areas, targeted eligible children in communities, schools, and healthcare centres.
Officials described the turnout as encouraging, attributing the success of the campaign to improved awareness, collaboration with healthcare workers, and community engagement initiatives. They emphasized that measles and rubella remain serious public health concerns capable of causing severe complications if left unchecked.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining immunization efforts and strengthening disease prevention strategies. Parents and guardians were urged to ensure their children receive recommended vaccines, while residents were encouraged to support public health programmes.
Health authorities added that monitoring and follow-up activities would continue to ensure full coverage and assess the impact of the vaccination campaign.
