Ekiti Lawmaker Rejects Consensus Move for Assembly Seat

A member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hakeem Jamiu, has rejected the reported endorsement of Boluwatife Fayose as the consensus candidate for the Irepodun/Ifelodun State Constituency II seat.

Jamiu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), described the move as “purported” and insisted that no legitimate agreement had been reached within the party to adopt a consensus candidate for the constituency.

The lawmaker maintained that party members and stakeholders must be allowed to participate freely in the political process, stressing that any attempt to impose a candidate would undermine internal democracy.

Boluwatife Fayose is the son of former Ayodele Fayose. Reports had suggested that he was being positioned as a consensus candidate for the seat representing Irepodun/Ifelodun State Constituency II in Ekiti State.

However, Jamiu said the claim does not reflect the position of party members in the constituency, adding that the selection of candidates should follow due process and democratic principles.

He urged party leaders and stakeholders to ensure transparency and fairness in the process, noting that open participation would strengthen the party ahead of future elections in the state.

Political observers say the development highlights growing contestation among stakeholders over the choice of candidates in the constituency.
