Desmond Elliot raises alarm over ailing veteran actor, James Uche
2 min readNollywood actor turned lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has called on his colleagues to assist ailing Prince James Uche, who has been down with kidney failure for the past one year.
Elliot made the announcement on his instagram account on Wednesday.
He posted a photo of James, a Nollywood actor, in the hospital on Instagram and captioned, “When God blesses u, remember others, Prince James Uche Nollywood actor has been in hospital struggling to live for over one year now (kidney failure), my fellow artists, great people & friends pls support him, he needs dialysis, medical care & food to survive. Back in July, the National President of Filmmakers Welfare Organisation of Nigeria, Sunday Awoji, had raised an alarm over Uche’s health.
He was quoted as having said in an interview with the Tribune Newspaper in Abuja that, “Prince James Uche has been very sick and incapacitated for some years now, and it has become obvious that he cannot provide the required funds to have the necessary medical attention. He is currently hospitalized in Lagos due to kidney related ailment, and urgently needed to be taken to Indian for a transplant that will gulp N11 million.”
A former Vice President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, not a few fans are aware that Uche has been struggling to survive a strange illness that has kept him off the screen for eight years.
In an interview he granted last year, he was said to be battling with an undefined heart disease, memory and sight loss. It was also reported that he had been served an eviction notice by his landlord, ordering him to vacate his residence at 45, Yetunde Brown Street, Gbagada, Lagos.
