CVR: 13,600 registrations in Zamfara are invalid
1 min readThe Zamfara State wing of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared that 1,126,359 out of 2,523,458 Permanent Voters Cards that were registered online between June and December 2021 invalid.
This was made known by State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Sa’idu Babura, while addressing newsmen at the State INEC office in Gusau, the state capital.
“After the authentication exercise, it was discovered that out of the 2,523,458 registrants nationwide, 1,390,519 are valid while 1,126,359 are invalid in Zamfara State 19,469 are valid while 13,600 are invalid” he added.
“This means that 44.6 per cent of all those who registered between June and December 2021 are in multiple registration.”
Speaking further, the State Resident Commissioner said that in Zamfara state, as at December 2021, only 33,09 people have registered on line, pointing out that, only 19,469 are valid, while 13,600 representing 41.1% are invalid.
He noted that there were 2,516 polling units in the state in 2019, but with the addition of 1,013 polling units, the figure has now risen to 3,529.
Professor Babura appealed to stakeholders, civil society organizations, traditional and religious leaders to assist the commission to appeal for public enlightenment to the residents to come out and register.
