Court Grants Anthony Joshua’s Driver Bail, Adjourns Trial to February 25

A Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, has granted bail to Adeniyi Kayode, the driver who conveyed former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, and two members of his team before a fatal road accident.

Kayode was arraigned before the court on charges bordering on reckless driving and causing death by dangerous driving following the accident, which reportedly claimed a life along the Sagamu–Benin Expressway.

The presiding magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum. The court ruled that the sureties must be responsible residents within the court’s jurisdiction and provide valid means of identification.

In addition to the bail conditions, the magistrate ordered the defendant to surrender his driver’s licence to the court pending the determination of the case.

The prosecution had earlier informed the court that the matter was still under investigation and requested an adjournment to enable the police conclude their findings and present witnesses.

The court subsequently adjourned the case until February 25 for continuation of trial.

Anthony Joshua was not present in court, as proceedings focused solely on the driver’s alleged involvement in the accident. The case has continued to draw public attention due to the involvement of the internationally renowned boxer.
