Coalition Of Northern Groups Tells Governors: ”Accept RUGA Within 30 Days Or We Will Resort To Our Next Line Of Action”
2 min readA coalition of Northern groups have issued a 30-day ultimatum to different state governors who are opposed to the RUGA settlement program, to reconsider their decisions immediately.
Many state governors, particularly in the South, have rejected vehemently the establishment of RUGA herdsmen settlement in their states.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday July 3rd, the spokesperson of the group, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, called on the Federal government to put a stop to the ”raging madness” of some governors opposing the RUGA policy.
“While we warn all state governments that stand against the implementation of the RUGA Initiative to desist and give peace a chance, we place President Buhari and the Federal Government on notice that they must act to halt and completely stop this raging madness within 30-days beginning from today, Wednesday July 3rd. For the avoidance of doubt, we advice the Federal authorities and the Southern leaders to heed the 30 days notice, failing to, we will most definitely be left with no option than to consider resorting to our decisive next line of action” he said
He was however, silent on what its next line of action would be should the states fail to comply with the ultimatum.
Yesterday, the Federal Government announced the suspension of the RUGA programme. At a meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the National Executive Committee (NEC) announced the suspension of the programme. The group said the decision to suspend the plan follows a lack of consistency with the NEC and FG approved National Livestock Transformation Plan.
