Carabao Cup final: David Luiz reveals who caused Chelsea’s 4-3 defeat to Manchester City
1 min readChelsea defender, David Luiz has blamed goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga following the Blues’ defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
Chelsea lost 4-3 to the Premier League champions, Man City after 120 minutes of goalless football.
However, late in the second half of extra time, Arizzabalaga went down injured and manager, Maurizio Sarri called on Willy Caballero to replace him.
Arizzabalaga refused to come off, insisting he was okay.
The incident delayed play for a while before referee Jon Moss confronted Sarri and continued the game.
But Luiz, accused Arrizabalaga of showing Sarri a lack of respect after he refused to be substituted.
“I told him [Arrizabalaga] to respect the decision of the coach,’ Luiz was quoted by Metro UK as saying at after the match.
“I think you have to talk about football. We played a v good match. In that situation, it was a big misunderstanding.
“I understood there was a problem and we needed a change. I only realised this when only the doctor arrived from the bench.
“It was a big misunderstanding because I understood the goalkeeper had cramp. So for me, he was unable but the problem was not cramping so he was able to go to the penalties.
“I have to talk with him but only to clarify because now I understand very well the situation.”
