Bus Fire Disrupts Traffic on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos

Lagos — A fire outbreak involving a high-capacity commercial bus on the Third Mainland Bridge on Monday caused severe traffic congestion, disrupting movement along one of Lagos’ busiest transport corridors.

Eyewitnesses said the bus caught fire while in motion, forcing the driver and passengers to hurriedly evacuate before the flames spread. No casualties were reported as of the time of filing this report.

The incident led to a temporary shutdown of sections of the bridge, resulting in long traffic build-ups stretching towards Oworonshoki and Adekunle ends of the bridge, as motorists sought alternative routes.

Emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and traffic management authorities, were promptly deployed to the scene to extinguish the fire and manage traffic.

Authorities said efforts were ongoing to clear the affected vehicle and restore normal traffic flow, while investigations were expected to determine the cause of the fire.

Motorists were advised to remain patient, obey traffic officials and consider alternative routes as recovery operations continued.
