Buhari Breakes Down NSC’s DG – Minister
1 min readPresident Muhammadu Buhari gave the directive for the merger of the National Sports Commission with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the minister in charge, Solomon Dalung, has said. He also disclosed that the scraping of the Office of the Director General of NSC was a presidential directive, adding that the creation of the commission had no legal backing.
Dalung said these when he received a team from the Bureau of Public Enterprises led by Acting Director General, Dr. Vincent Akpotaire, according to a statement made available to our correspondent by Head of Public Communications at BPE, Alex Okoh, in Abuja on Wednesday.
Dalung expressed happiness over the enthusiasm shown by the private sector to participate in the planned reforms of the sports sector, saying that the ministry had received offers from many investors in that regard.
He called on private investors to take advantage of the proposed sports reforms to invest in the sector, adding that not doing so would result in investing in criminality as the teeming idle Nigerian youth would have no vocation to turn to.
Citing sports as a veritable tool for development, determinant of national integration, tourism earner and foreign relations tool, the minister said any investment in the sector was a guarantee for sustainability.
