Atiku Warns Against Frustrating Dangote Refinery
1 min readFormer Vice President Atiku Abubakar has warned against attempts to frustrate the progress of Dangote Refinery, a significant private sector project positioned to meet Nigeria’s energy and forex needs.
Atiku, in a post on his X handle on Saturday, urged Nigerians to join in the call for assurance that no internal or external force hinders the benefits promised by the Dangote refinery project.
He stated, “Each parent eagerly awaiting the arrival of a child will dutifully undertake the necessary measures to ensure that the nurturing and development of this precious blessing remain a primary focus. This fundamental principle applies equally to investments, whether they be local or international in nature.”

Atiku’s warning comes amidst controversies over the operation of Dangote Refinery, including a dispute between the refinery and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) over domestic crude supply obligations.
The NUPRC had faulted claims by Dangote Refinery that it had not properly enforced the domestic crude supply obligation, stating that it facilitated the supply of 29 million barrels of crude oil to the refinery between January and June.
However, Dangote Refinery denied receiving the 29 million barrels of crude oil, accusing NUPRC of being unable to enforce domestic crude supply obligations to Nigerian refineries as specified in the Petroleum Industry Act.
