Arsene Wenger is an Arsenal icon – FIFA president
1 min readInfantino was elected as FIFA president last year following Sepp Blatter’s resignation.
The world football governing body has been hit with crisis after a number of corruption cases.
And the Swiss-Italian has already made an impact with his reforms.
He wants video technology in place for the 2018 World Cup in Russia as well as expanding the number of teams to compete in the competition to 48 from 2026.
When it comes to management, though, reforms are at the bottom of his thoughts.
When asked on Wenger’s future the FIFA chief, in charge of one of the biggest sporting governments in the world, said he was glad he did not have to deal with the responsibility of managing a club.
He said: “Arsene Wenger is an icon of Arsenal. Even his first name is Arsene. It’s linked for eternity.
“I’m very happy I have to deal with many other challenges, but not with managing Arsenal.
“It will be up to the managers of Arsenal to decide what the future of Arsenal will be.
“But what Arsene Wenger has done in Arsenal throughout history is certainly… he’s a big personality of football. He’s one of the football legends.”
