Akwa Ibom IGR Hits N7bn Monthly After TSA Implementation — Gov. Eno
The Governor of Umo Eno has announced a significant increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), revealing that monthly collections have risen from about ₦2 billion to ₦7 billion following the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) system. 📈
Speaking during a recent government briefing in Akwa Ibom State, Governor Eno said the improvement occurred within three months of introducing the TSA, which was designed to enhance transparency, block revenue leakages, and ensure better financial management across government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
According to the governor, the reform has allowed the state government to centralize all revenue collections into a single account, making it easier to monitor inflows and eliminate diversion of funds.
“Before the introduction of the TSA, the state generated about ₦2 billion monthly, but with proper monitoring and accountability, we are now recording about ₦7 billion every month,” the governor stated.
He explained that the Treasury Single Account policy has strengthened the government’s capacity to track revenue sources, improve compliance among revenue-collecting agencies, and ensure that public funds are properly accounted for. 💼
Governor Eno also noted that the increase in IGR would enable the state government to reduce dependence on federal allocations and invest more in key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic development.
Financial analysts say the development highlights how digital reforms and stronger financial controls can significantly improve revenue performance in Nigerian states. They also believe the Akwa Ibom example could encourage other states to adopt similar accountability measures.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the reforms and expanding the revenue base, with plans to further strengthen tax administration, improve compliance, and create a more business-friendly environment for investors.
Observers say the progress signals a positive step toward fiscal sustainability and improved governance in Akwa Ibom. 🚀
