ADC Questions INEC’s Actions in Ongoing Leadership Tussle
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns over the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in its ongoing leadership crisis, accusing the electoral body of actions it described as unlawful and biased.
In a statement, the party alleged that INEC’s recent decisions appear to favour one faction in the internal dispute, a development it says undermines the commission’s neutrality.
ADC officials argued that as an independent electoral umpire, INEC is expected to remain impartial in party affairs and operate strictly within the bounds of the law.
The party maintained that any perceived interference in its internal leadership matters could escalate tensions and deepen divisions among members.
According to the ADC, certain steps taken by the commission in recognising or engaging with specific party representatives have raised questions about due process and adherence to established guidelines.
The party therefore called on INEC to review its actions and ensure that it does not compromise its credibility in the eyes of Nigerians.
Efforts to resolve the leadership tussle within the ADC have been ongoing, with different factions laying claim to the party’s structure and legitimacy.
Political analysts note that internal disputes within parties, if not properly managed, could affect their performance in future elections and weaken democratic institutions.
INEC has yet to issue an official response to the allegations, but observers say the situation highlights the need for transparency and strict compliance with electoral regulations in handling intra-party conflicts.
