ADC Faction Protests at INEC Headquarters, Demands Recognition

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Nafiu Gombe, staged a protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding official recognition.

The group accused a rival faction, reportedly aligned with former Senate President David Mark, of hijacking the party’s structure and sidelining other members.

Protesters gathered at the INEC office carrying placards and chanting slogans, urging the electoral body to acknowledge their leadership and address what they described as internal injustice within the party.

Speaking during the demonstration, representatives of the group insisted that due process must be followed in determining legitimate party leadership, calling on INEC to remain neutral and uphold democratic principles.

They further alleged that the ongoing leadership tussle has created confusion among members and threatened the unity of the party.

Efforts to get a response from the opposing faction were not immediately successful, while INEC officials have yet to issue an official statement on the protest.

Observers say the development underscores deepening divisions within the ADC, which could have implications for its political positioning ahead of future elections.

The situation remains fluid as stakeholders await INEC’s response and possible steps to resolve the leadership dispute.
